Epson launches A2 SureColor SC-P800 printer with UltraChrome HD inks

06:15
Printer manufacturer Epson has announced it will introduce an A2 printer that uses its new extended-life UltraChrome ink-set and which will accept roll-fed paper via an optional roll holder. The professional photo printer will be able to produce prints of up to 17in high in panoramic formats as long as 1.1m/43.3in, as well as printing on thick art paper via a front media loader.

The SC-P800 uses the same nine-color ink-set as the SC-P600 which was launched in September last year. The UltraChrome HD set includes six colors, matte black, Photo black, light black and light light black, and the individual cartridges hold 80ml of ink. Each color passes through a 180-nozzle print head that is capable of producing droplets of 3.5pl, while the overall print resolution is stated as 2880x1440dpi.Epson claims this ink-set produces the 'deepest blacks on the market' and that prints on its glossy media will last over 60 years.

Epson has included Wi-Fi and Epson Connect functionality, as well as Wi-Fi Direct for peer-to-peer connections with cameras, smartphones and tablets. A 2.7in color LCD screen with touch controls provides access to the menu system and makes switching between media types quicker than with previous models.

A replacement for the Stylus Pro38xx series, the Sure Color SC-P800 has the smallest foot print of any A2 desktop printer according to Epson. The printer comes loaded with 576ml of ink, and will be available from June priced £974.18 including tax or $1295.
